My Philosophy

I love teaching. My whole live I have enjoyed helping people learn. From a young age I lined all my stuffed animals up in a row and wrote on the chalkboard everything that we would be learning from the day. I worked tirelessly trying to teach my baby brother to read and later to play the piano. As I grew older that love of teaching never went away. Which leads to where we are today. I am studying elementary education at Utah State University and I am more excited then ever to become a teacher.

One thing I want to incorporate in my classroom is a wide variety of strategies and opportunities to learn. Each student is different from the next, so why should teaching be the same? I also believe that children need to get up, move around and be kids! One thing that amazes me about this generation of children is how good they are at technology. Its almost like they were born with a cell phone in one hand and a tablet in the other. Because they are so technologically savvy it is important that technology is also brought into the classroom or else we will be fighting for their attention. Blogs are one way that not only can the students get involved with technology, but it is a way for parents to say informed about what is going on in the classroom. Two excellent examples of blogs that I would like to incorporate into my future classroom are:
http://yollisclassblog.blogspot.com/  In this blog the teacher shares what the class has been learning and accomplishing. I love how it keeps parents informed and also gives students viable information in case they happened to forget something they had learned in class.
http://mrbaldock.edublogs.org/ This is another fantastic blog. This teacher works in Australia, so it is fun to connect with classrooms from all over the world! This blog is mainly about keeping parents involved in the classroom.

I am excited to one day use blogging as part of my classroom, and maybe even have the students do some of the writing themselves!
